BMW Concept 8 Series Makes Worldwide Debut
BMW revealed the concept 8 Series at the Villa d'Este Concours in Italy last month. Even though this is considered to be just a concept vehicle, it's anticipated that the final production vehicles will appear quite similar to what was shown at Lake Como, with a few exterior modifications needed to ensure that it meets specific safety standards.
it's obvious that the 8 Series is a real beauty. Laser headlights offset the iconic kidney grille, while a long hood line, flowing roofline and rear fender flares emphasize the vehicle's elegant muscularity. One concept feature we hope makes it through to the finished product is the 21-inch wheels that carry the car through its paces.
The interior boasts a digital instrument cluster, squared-off steering wheel and two-tone leather and microsuede seating with contrasting stitching. The next-generation BMW iDrive architecture makes a debut in the Concept 8 Series, with a luxurious rotary controller that's made of Swarovski crystal.
The 8 Series is expected to come with a standard turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 engine, with the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 that's in the current 750i will be offered as an upgrade. An eight-speed automatic transmission will be standard, and available xDrive all-wheel-drive system should be an available option.
When the 8 Series is offered for sale in 2018, it is expected to be available in three models: a two-door coupe, a four-door Gran Coupe and a cabriolet.
