BMW X5 sDrive40i & xDrive40i: Setting the Standard
The base trim X5 sDrive40i and the xDrive40i both come with an effective 3.0L BMW TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engine under the hood. Delivering 335 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, this base trim sets a high bar.
Paired with an 8-speed Sport Automatic transmission and outfitted with Sport and Manual shift modes–, as well as steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters and a Launch Control feature, the BMW X5 is ready to fly.
Both also feature Driving Dynamics Control, which comes with the following selectable drive modes:
- ECO PRO
- COMFORT
- SPORT
These modes will tailor every drive to match your mood and the demands of the road. The difference between these two versions is that the X5 xDrive40i trim and higher trims come with the adaptable xDrive all-wheel drive (AWD) system.
By varying torque between the front and rear axles, this advanced all-wheel drive system continually maximizes traction.
BMW X5 M50i: Introducing a Robust V8 Engine

In the BMW X5 M, you’ll find the same engine as the previous trim but with a muscular 600-horsepower upgrade. You can even increase its power output with the available Competition Package, which gives it 617 horsepower. To top it off, this model also comes with a set of 6-piston front M compound brakes and the following sport-specific features to ramp up your driving experience:
