BMW is Building Pre-Production X7 Models in South Carolina

January 16th, 2018 by

BMW Group announced last month that pre-production models of the new BMW X7 Sports Activity Vehicle were being manufactured at the company's Spartanburg, South Carolina facility. This step begins the year-long process leading up to the production X7 SAV's debut at the end of 2018, following a series of endurance tests and test-drives conducted in extreme conditions.

To maximize series production, BMW uses the same assembly line for the pre-production BMW X7 and the already existing BMW X5 and BMW X6 production models. However, the pre-production model is finished by a team of trained specialists who make sure that a camouflage wrap is added to the pre-production models prior to the SAVs leaving the plant. The conspicuous striped patterns of the wrap have been designed to help disguise the SAV's final design as much as possible.

In a press release, Knudt Flor, head of the BMW Group Spartanburg plant, remarked, "We are proud to produce the BMW X7 here in Spartanburg, the home of our X models. This is a very special vehicle and our employees are looking forward to yet a further member of the X family. Together with the BMW X7, a total of five BMW X models will be exported from Spartanburg to all four corners of the globe."

At BMW of Arlington, we take pride in serving BMW drivers from throughout the greater Dallas area, including Fort Worth and Irving.
